About Scabiosa
(Sweet Scabious)

Scabiosa, Sweet Scabious, are a genus of half hardy and hardy perennial gardening plants.

Attractive yellow, pink, violet, purple, blue or lavender flowers are soiltary borne at the end of wiry stems.

Scabiosa have a long flowering period and are ideal in mixed beds and borders.

They are perfect for cottage gardens and English Gardens.

If you want to attract bees and other insects in to your garden then you need to grow Sweet Scabious.

They need to grow in full sun to enjoy them at their best.

A fertile well drained soil that retains moisture is preferred.

So dig in plenty of well rotted manure or compost before planting.

They will benefit from a mulch to retain moisture and prevent weeds from growing, bark or similar is ideal.

Scabiosa prefer a sheltered position protected from cold and high winds.

Common names: Sweet Scabious.
